Born 1923 (Gravesend Q4-1923 2A:1052), the son of Arthur and Rose Eva Hilton FRANKLIN (née NIBLETT).

Local knowledge indicates that he lived in the house opposite the playing fields, now the Butterflies Day Nursery. In the 1939 register his mother [28-9-1894](recorded as married still) was living in High Street, Lakenheath with his sister Dorothy (16-9-1926) later to be Mrs LANE. They were with newsagent/greengrocer William LEADER and his wife Florence. There are 5 closed records. His father has not been identified in the 1939 register.

His elder brother Charles died as a prisoner of war of the Japanese on the Japanese mainland in 1943 see here





Two Wellington aircraft of 99 squadron were sent from Digri to a forward airfield at Argartala on the 15th March 1943 to bring back personnel. On their return flight they collided near Dacca and both crashed, one aircraft, that of F/Sgt Rowlands suffering minor injuries to the crew, but W/O Dobson's aircraft lost all the crew and passengers (11 all told).
